Internal medicine focuses on treating problems that affect internal organs and systems (gastrointestinal, endocrine, metabolic, renal, infectious,
respiratory, etc.), through the application of non-surgical treatments.
At Centro Veterinario
Petlovers we have the appropriate equipment that allows us to establish rigorous medical protocols, with which we obtain the
information that will allow us to guide the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of diseases of the different specialties.
To develop a correct practice of internal medicine, extensive training and constant recycling is necessary that allows us to apply new treatments to
the protocols used in the center.
Different sub-specialties arise from internal medicine, among them, the most common in veterinary consultations are:
-
DERMATOLOGY: Skin problems are one of the
most frequent consultations in the veterinary clinic. We can find patients with itching, alopecia, parasites...
-
CARDIOLOGY: Cardiology studies the
cardiovascular system, made up of the heart and blood vessels. At Petlovers Veterinary Center, we recommend subjecting dogs and cats to periodic evaluations to detect anomalies related to
this system. Symptoms may appear such as: cough, respiratory distress, exercise intolerance, syncope...
-
ENDOCRINOLOGY: It is the specialty in charge
of treating diseases that affect the glands that produce and release hormones, metabolism and nutritional problems. Common symptoms include: weight loss/gain, hair loss, increased appetite,
polydipsia-polyuria (excessive water consumption accompanied by exaggerated urine output), etc.
-
GASTROENTEROLOGY: It is the study of diseases of the digestive system that are
increasingly common in our pets. They may come for consultation due to lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, food allergies. Many times, a fundamental part of the treatment of
some of these diseases consists of the administration of a specific diet to treat each pathology.
-
ONCOLOGY: There are more and more veterinary oncology consultations in small animals,
especially in elderly animals (although it can also occur in young animals). Therefore, periodic check-ups at the veterinarian are essential to facilitate early detection of cancer. That is
why it is advisable to carry out at least an annual review. It can manifest itself in multiple ways: weight loss, lack of appetite, difficulty breathing, lameness, appearance of growing
masses, etc.
-
NEPHROLOGY AND UROLOGY: Specialty that deals with the study of the structure and function
of the kidneys and urinary tract. Urinary tract problems are very common in cats and dogs. The most common pathologies can affect the urethra, the bladder (cystitis) and the kidneys (kidney
disease). Chronic kidney disease is the most common kidney pathology in dogs and cats. They can manifest with difficulty urinating, polydipsia-polyuria, hematuria (presence of blood in
urine), vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
